A Bear Affair is an annual gala event that raises much needed funds for Bear Cottage.
The event was established in 2002 and is run by a dedicated committee in conjunction with staff from Bear Cottage. In 2012 our aim is to raise $250,000 for this special place of care.
Bear Cottage is the only children’s hospice in NSW that provides support, respite and end of life care for children with terminal illnesses and their families.
Working in conjunction with the Pain and Palliative Care Service at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Bear Cottage is a medically supported home away from home offering families a physical and emotional break from the arduous task of caring for such a sick child.
Families do not pay for any support they receive from Bear Cottage, with one and sometimes both parents giving up work to care for their child, many are simply not in a financial position to pay for anything that is not absolutely necessary.
By having Bear Cottage available to families at no charge means they can take a break safe in the knowledge that their child is being cared for by the best staff available.
They can enjoy time with one another without having to worry about the housework and cooking. Most importantly though, they can spend quality time together and create special memories that will last long after their child has passed away.
